It is possible to improve website traffic through more than method. However, I do not have knowledge pf your present actions for the promotion of your site. Consequently, I do not know if what I will be sharing in this post is going to be something that you already have knowledge of. While some methods require to spend money, others do not. In this post I am going to mention some paid and free techniques that could be employed to drive visitors to a website.

Paying for visitors

Among the methods that are paid, there are: PPC or pay per click, solo ads, banner advertising for example. Concerning pay per click or PPC for which I am going to give more information, there exist ad networks such as Google Adwords and Microsoft Adcenter that permit to advertize with their services. With Google Adwords , you could decide to pay per click. Meaning that each time a person clicks on your ad, you will have to spend for the click. If you decided to advertize in the content network of google, from past expereince I can say that it was less expensive than advertizing in the classical search result pages.

Please note that Pay per click can lead to spend a lot of money and learning a lot from experienced people can be advantageous before engaging in this form of advertizing.

Getting Traffic for Free

Getting visitors for free is also possible.  Ways that could be utilized to direct traffic to a site that way are: SEO or Search Engine Optimization, blog commenting, forum marketing, Twitter  and Facebook marketing for instance. I am going to briefly talk about search engine optimization.

Search engine optimization is seen as being slow by some people. In fact, while it appears to be a passive form of generating free traffic, it may require that the person knows what to do. In fact, compared to blog commenting, SEO does not necessarily require that the same action made for the initial ranking of the site be applied everyday. Effectively, with search engine optimization,  a website is ranked for a profitable keyword to increase its visibility in Google for example. This increased visibility may lead to more people visiting the website.
